Sensory Play Recipes

Homemade Slime

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz of school glue

  • 1/4 cup of water

  • food coloring (if you prefer colored slime) and 1/4 cup of Borax. For additional fun, grab some glitter glue!

Directions:

  1. Mix the glue, water and food coloring in a bowl.

  2. Add the borax to your mixture and the slime should immediately start to form

  3. Mix for as long as you can and then use your hands to knead until it becomes less sticky and more like slime

  4. If there is leftover water in the bowl, just dump it. Store your slime in a plastic bag or container

Expanding ‘Marble’ Balloon

Ingredients:

  • Container of water beads, there are buckets of 20,000 at Amazon, see link below

  • Bag of water balloons

Directions:

  1. Add enough water beads to fill the bottom of the water balloon (water beads expand with water so you don’t want the balloon more than half full, maybe not even, depending on the size of the dry beads.)

  2. Add water on top of water beads inside the balloon. Balloon will expand, water beads will roll around inside providing a wonderful sensory experience. (Can take up to 2 hours + for full expansion.)

Purchase water beads

Water beads themselves are a wonderful sensory tool. They’re not expensive and provide hours of fun - whether in a bowl, bin or even a water table, lots of entertainment can be had. Perfect for summer, but also indoor friendly to be carried through all the seasons!
